offer a first draft instead of a blank page
asked how categories should be decided, it offered "you name them now" and "let's talk about it" — and the owner had to type "take a first try and lets see how it lands" into the Other box. it had already transcribed eight memos. it could have read them and proposed a set. so: where you could draft the answer yourself, that is the FIRST option. naming them outright is the second, for somebody who already knows. stated generally, because categories are only the first instance: any time the answer is something you could sketch from what you already have, sketch it and ask them to correct it. correcting a draft is quick, inventing one is work, and it is work the commander is better placed to do.
